Several people were left injured and two perished in the attack as a gunman armed with an assault rifle rammed into a Walmart distribution center and opened fire.
The incident occurred at a Walmart distribution center near Red Bluff, California, where a man armed with an “AR-type weapon” allegedly started shooting at people on Saturday afternoon.
Before the authorities managed to land a fatal bullet, the gunman had allegedly fired several dozen shots and killed two people. According to the reports, at least four more were left injured by the shooting.
As the workers at the Walmart center confirmed in an interview with KHSL, some two hundred employees were inside the building at the time of the incident.
After the shooting started, some workers allegedly locked themselves in rooms whereas others fled the premises.
According to the Sacramento Bee, the shooter was driving a white vehicle as he rammed into the building, starting a fire that initially prevented emergency services from entering the center.
At around 3.30 pm, the gunman allegedly opened fire, whereas he was shot down around 15 minutes later.
“It went on and on – I don’t even know how many times he fired. I just know it was a lot,” one of the Walmart workers, Scott Thammakhanty, said of the incident.
As another witness said in an interview with NBC affiliate KNVN, he was “worried about the people that were injured by the car into the building.”
“I went to help a lady that was kind of trapped at the beginning and at that point, I started hearing gunfire and then, went down to the office and there was more gunfire,” the witness said. “I hit the panic alarm and called 911 as soon as I could.”
The investigation continues.
