An e-commerce consultant shared a visual interpretation of just how much Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is worth… using grains of rice.
Humphrey Yang, 32, shows what $100,000 (£78,000), $1 million (£780,000) and $1 billion (£780m) looked like, using one single grain of rice representing $100,000.
He kept the three figures against the net worth of Jeff Bezos (at the time of filming), which was a staggering $122 billion (£95bn).
In the videos, Yang said: “So my Saturday night consisted of counting 10,000 grains of rice one by one just to show you guys how much a billion dollars is.”
He also pointed out what a Lamborghini and a $5 million house would look like, saying: “I just bought you like, a Lamborghini right here and I didn’t even notice it was gone.
“Here’s a $5 million house in California and… oh look, I still have all this money.”
In the second video, Zang says: “A lot of you guys asked me, ‘well how much does Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos have in terms of rice?’ So that was my mission. I went to Target, I bought a digital food scale, I came home and then I weighed the rice that was worth $1 billion from earlier.”
“I did the math in my head and I went to Costco. I got the rice, I brought it home and once I brought it home I went to work.”
As a side note, Yang explained: “I also wanna say that I have five families that are going to take this unused rice so it’s not wasteful.”
Jeff Bezos is one of the richest people on the planet. But he donates some of his money to help fight things like climate change.
Last month, the 56-year-old promised to pump $10 billion (£7.69bn) into a global initiative he’s launching, helpfully called the Bezos Earth Fund.
The 56-year-old took to Instagram and wrote: “Earth is the one thing we all have in common – let’s protect it, together.”
Bezos pledged a $2bn (£1.6bn) commitment to focus on sheltering homeless families.
