One of the biggest downsides of the internet is the number of scammers lurking around and preying on unsuspected victims.
While most people are already aware of the potential scams and stay far away from them, one victim decided to turn the tables on the scammer.
Tom Sheerin/Facebook
After Tom Sheerin was contacted by a scammer, he immediately started a lengthy conversation with the culprit. He was determined to waste as much of his time as possible.
It all began with the scammer, ‘Michael,’ telling Tom that he was sent by the Facebook CEO to deliver the good news about Tom winning over $1 million and a Jeep in an online draw.
All that Tom was ordered to do was to send Michael $500 to cover the shipping fees. Apparently, the money would arrive in a cartoon box and would be delivered to his home address.
Michael, who is a true professional, also ‘proved’ that the winnings are real by sending over a picture of money in a box. There was also an assurance letter containing explanations such as: “All I want you to understand, is that this Facebook lottery is fully real and legitimate” and “I want you to rest assured this is the right office.”
At that point, Tom was already determined to troll the scammer and waste as much of his time as possible. “Yes you winnings will be delivery to you by the FedEx delivery company ok. It will be delivered to you at your doorstep,” Michael replied after Tom inquired about how the winnings would be sent to him.

After his story went viral, Tom told Unilad:
“I’ve had messages like this in the past and I always try to mess about with them but they usually realise pretty quick, this man must be working on commission because he really didn’t want to give up.
“The response has been amazing, I only posted it as I thought a friend might appreciate it but before I knew it it was getting shared around the world, now seen it on websites from Russia, the Ukraine and the US, can’t believe how positive the response has been.”
