China released a video of 20 happy patients celebrating as they were released from a hospital in Wuhan, where the virus originated.
The video showed 20 patients flashing V-signs while walking out of Jinyintan Hospital, one of the main facilities where coronavirus patients are being looked after.
A 23-year-old patient walked in front of the camera after becoming the first person to have combated the infection in his province.
After passing numerous medical tests, delighted patients were finally allowed to leave, according to Hubei Radio and TV Station.
The station also noted that this is the first time so many patients have been released on the same day as they all managed to recover.
The deadly virus has infected every region of the country. The Hubei province remains to be the ground zero of the health crisis. Around 56 million people are still in quarantine, and Wuhan, a city of 11 million people, has turned into a ghost city because of the lockdown.
Over 6,000 medical workers were sent to Hubei to help treat coronavirus patients and officials have also ordered new coronavirus hospitals to be constructed.
The first facility opened after two days of construction. The other facility two hospitals in Wuhan, called Leishenshan Hospital and Huoshenshan Hospital, will also start receiving patients.
According to crematorium workers in the city, bodies are being sent there from hospitals without being counted in the official record.
William Yang, a reporter for Deutsche Welle, said there were “reasons to remain skeptical about what China has been sharing with the world.”
Yang said: “While they have been more transparent about certain things related to the virus, they continue to be sketchy and unreliable in other aspects.”
