The Duke of Sussex seemed to make a ‘slip of the tongue’ when he claimed that his wife Meghan Markle pushed him to seek therapy, a TV host claimed.
Prince Harry appeared on podcast Armchair Expert and said that he had professional help because of his struggles as a working royal and that it was Meghan who encouraged him to seek therapy.
But in their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, the Duchess of Sussex claimed that she was refused help.
“I went to the institution and I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help,” she told Oprah.
“I said, ‘I’ve never felt this way before and I need to go somewhere’. And I was told that I couldn’t, that it wouldn’t be good for the institution.”
Speaking on Sky News Australia, host Andrew Bolt commented on the contradiction between the two statements and said that it was odd Meghan couldn’t seek help but Harry could.
“Didn’t she say in her notorious interview with Oprah Winfrey that when she wanted to go see a therapist herself Buckingham Palace refused her permission?” Bolt asked.
“Prince Harry, the actual prince could get therapy but his wife could not?”
Royal commentator Daisy Cousens also appeared to agree with Bolt’s assertion, saying: “It is pretty extraordinary, I didn’t actually pick that up until you mentioned it.
“That is very well-spotted because there is a giant disconnect there between the two stories. Quite a slip of the tongue from Harry.”
“The whole big point they made in the interview was that the Palace would not let Meghan get any therapy because they thought it would look bad.
“I am sorry, but if this is true why would Prince Harry be allowed to get therapy?”
During the same interview, the Duke of Sussex criticized the First Amendment of America, calling it ‘bonkers’, and admitted that he does not understand it.
