Meghan Markle and Prince Harry received boos when a video of their interview with Oprah Winfrey was aired at the National Television Awards.
While the viewers’ booing did not appear on the live telecast, attendees told Mail Online that people ‘loudly’ booed when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared on the screen.
“Megan and Harry were shown on screen during a montage of TV moments from the last twelve months,” the source said.
“Immediately, there was audible booing throughout the arena. It was as though they were pantomime villains.”
The London’s O2 arena event is a highlight of the showbiz calendar. It is attended by many of the biggest stars in Britain, suggesting that the reputation of the Sussexes has soured among the top celebrities.
Another source also said: “When the clip came up of Meghan there were boos from the audience. Some shouted out and there was laughing. There were a few embarrassed faces but sadly Meghan was obviously not too popular on the night.”
Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah was viewed by more than 17 million around the world.
The Sussexes accused a member of the Royal Family of racism and claimed that the Palace failed to support the ‘suicidal’ duchess.
Harry also claimed that his family had cut off him financially and suggested that the Queen had been told to cancel their meeting at Sandringham.
The Duchess of Sussex also accused Kate Middleton of making her cry.
The Oprah interview received a backlash after fact-checkers revealed a lot of inaccuracies. People also expressed their anger at the couple’s decision to publicly trash Harry’s family when Prince Philip was ill.
