Prince Harry said they were forced to sign multi-million dollar deals with Netflix and Spotify after the Royal Family “cut me off” financially.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed that they “had no plan” to make lucrative deals with the streamers when they decided to step down as senior royals.
However, Harry said “financial concerns” persuaded them to have partnerships with Spotify and Netflix, adding he would’ve been unable to pay for security for his family if it weren’t for the money his mother Princess Diana left him in her will.
Meghan and Harry raised eyebrows when they made an announcement in September that they signed a deal with Netflix despite mentioning that one of the reasons they quit the Royal Family was the lack of privacy, the Daily Mail reported.
In December, the Duke and Duchess announced their lucrative deal with Spotify.
When asked about the partnerships, Harry told Oprah that they were “never part of the plan” but they feared financial issues.
“My family literally cut me off financially and I had to afford security for us,” Harry said. “But I’ve got what my mum left me and, without that, we would not have been able to do this.”
Meghan and Harry are predicted to become one of the highest-earning celebrity couple in the world with a net worth potentially stretching up to $1 billion within ten years.
According to reports, Princess Diana left £21million to her sons Prince William and Prince Harry. The Duke also received £7million from the Queen Mother’s will when she passed away in 2002.
Harry’s overall net worth is believed to be £30 million while Meghan’s is around £4 million.
