The waxwork models of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have already been removed from the Royal Family set at Madame Tussauds after the couple announced that they were stepping back from their royal duties.
The General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, Steve Davies, said: “Alongside the rest of the world we are reacting to the surprising news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be stepping back as senior Royals.
“From today, Meghan and Harry’s figures will no longer appear in our Royal Family set.
“As two of our most popular and well-loved figures, they will of course remain an important feature at Madame Tussauds London as we watch to see what the next chapter holds for them.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement on Instagram about how they had decided to ‘make a transition’ and step down as senior members of the royal family.
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.
“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.
“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.”
The couple planned to ‘balance’ their time between the North America and the UK to allow them to raise their son ‘with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born’ while also giving their family enough ‘space to focus on the next chapter.
The Queen’s office said in an official statement that discussions with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were at an ‘early stage.’
“Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage,” it read.
“We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”
