End of summer holiday means preparing to get back into the school in full swing.
The school’s corridors will be full of new pencil cases, school shoes, and coats. However, it would be a better idea to hide Harry Potter books, especially, if you belong to St. Edward Church and School in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Roman Catholic school has banned the Harry Potter series from being issues from its library as they risk conjuring evil spirits. J.K. Rowling’s wizard-themed adventure series of books consumed many people’s childhood, leaving their imagination in a tizzy.
However, for a pastor at St. Edward Church and School, Reverend Dan Reehil, the books are sinister.
Reverend Dan Reehil wrote in an email that these books present magic as both evil and good, which is untrue but a clever deception. He added that the spells and curses used in the books are real spells and curses.
According to him, reading those spells and curses by humans risks conjuring evil spirits into the existence of the person reading them.
Reehil noted that he had consulted multiple exorcists in Rome and the United States of America and they have recommended removing the novels from student’s possession.
Rebecca Hammel who is the superintendent of schools for Catholic Diocese of Nashville confirmed that the mail had been sent. She added that the Catholic Church does not have the authority when it comes to the wizard-themed books; however, school’s pastor has the final say.
She confirmed that the pastor is well within is power to act in that manner, since each pastor has such authority to decide for his parish school.
She further said that other than making sure that the school libraries have age-appropriate materials, the school does not get into censorship in such selections.
The Harry Potter series is the most selling book series of all time.
