Harry Styles’ fans have been left divided after the singer and songwriter appeared at the 2019 Met Gala wearing a see-through ensemble, one earring in his right ear, and heels.
The former One Direction star clearly took the ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ theme seriously as he walked in N.Y. Metropolitan Museum of Art in style.
Joining the 25-year-old star in chairing this year’s event were Lady Gaga, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Gucci designer Alessandro Michele, and tennis player Serena Williams.
Arriving at the reception alongside Alessandro Michele, the teen heartthrob appeared to be in high spirits as he showed off his semi-sheer black ensemble, heels, and one pearl earring dangling from his right ear.
On his fingers, the British hitmaker wore several accessories selected by Harry Lambert, his fashion mastermind, including two massive gold rings bearing initials H and S.
Styles also had his nails done by Jenny Nails who opted for turquoise and black colors to match the star’s ensemble.
In the evening hours, Harry traded his unique look for a simple white blouse complemented with a large bow tie that was colored red. The hitmaker also switched his pearl earring for a big gold and black cross.
As for Alessandro Michele, he made his appearance in a ruffled pink ensemble and long brunette locks. The Gucci designer also wore an eye-catching silver headband.
The idea for this year’s gala and exhibit were based on Susan Sontag’s essay Notes on ‘Camp’ dating back to 1964.
According to Anna Wintour, this year’s Met Gala, previously known as Costume Institute Benefit, was all about “individuality” and “self-expression.” As the Vogue editor added, she was thrilled to witness “outrageous, fun, tongue in cheek” styles taking over the red carpet.
