Prince Harry has recorded a special message to celebrate the 75th anniversary of children’s favourite series Thomas the Tank Engine before quitting royal family.
The Duke introduced a new program Thomas and Friends: The Royal Engine, whose storyline covers Harry’s father and grandmother, Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II, as animated characters.
The video clip which has been recorded beforehand emerged on April 28 on the Internet. In the clip, the 35-year-old said: ”Thomas the Tank Engine has been a comforting, familiar face to so many families over the last 75 years – entertaining, educating and inspiring children on important issues through exciting stories and characters.”
”I certainly have fond memories of growing up with Thomas & Friends and being transported to new places through his adventures. I am very proud to have been asked to take part in this special episode. I wish Thomas & Friends a very happy anniversary.”
The show will be aired on Netflix in the U.S. on May 1 and on Channel 5’s ‘Milkshake’ show in the U.K. the next day. The special episode will show Thomas visits London for the first time on a mission to take Fat Controller Sir Topham Hatt to Buckingham Palace to get an honor.
Thomas then loses his way and meets the royal train, named the Duchess of Loughborough.
Gone Girl star Rosamund Pike who is voicing to the Duchess of Loughborough, said: ”I take it as a big responsibility to play Duchess who is a lovely, warm, bubbly sort of effervescent engine that I am incredibly drawn to because she is very anxious to get things right.”
Chuck Scothon, of toy company Mattel, said he is happy that Prince Harry is introducing this special episode and it would be a perfect time to offer something while everyone is staying at home amid the lockdown.
He said: ”Since the beginning, Thomas & Friends has celebrated friendship and teamwork through storytelling which has cultivated fan love across generations.”
