A treehouse hotel at San Cristobal Island is believed to be haunted.

A businessman from Ecuador arrived at the island in the 19th century and started producing sugar, orange crops, animal oil products, and coffee for export.

It is said that the businessman would treat his workers like slaves and to punish those who were not working properly, he would lash them to the kapok tree or even lynch them.

Locals believe that the tree is haunted as the voices of yelling, crying, and the sound of rattling chains come from the tree.

 

In 1980, Cornejo Ubillus arrived from Quit, Ecuador and decided to buy the land.

He created a treehouse hotel with two bathrooms, an expansive basement, a working kitchen, electricity, plumbing, and bunk beds.

By climbing down a ladder, you can enter the rooms in the tree trunk.

The treehouse hotel also has a zip line between trees, a fire escape pole from the second stories, and a small pool.

Guests can also rent a small guesthouse.
