The Haunting of Hill House creator has spoken out and claimed that the second season of the popular horror series will be even scarier than the first one.
Named ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor,’ the sequel will be “a lot more frightening” and based on a “very, very exciting story” according to filmmaker Mike Flanagan.
“It’s scarier. It’s a lot more frightening, just on a visceral level,” Mr. Flanagan said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
The Netflix hit found its inspiration in The Turn of the Screw, an 1898 novella by Henry James. The plot of the sequel revolves around a governess who began experiencing haunting after visiting Bly Manor to take care of orphan children.
Confirming that the project is on time, Flanagan said they’re already one “third of the way through.”
“It’s going great. We’re about a third of the way through. It’s such a treat to play in the world of Henry James. It’s a whole different vibe from Shirley Jackson,” he added.
“Turn of the Screw is kind of the backbone of the season. But that’s been adapted so many times, and so well, like in the case of the The Innocents and others.
“So, we were able to open up his entire library of ghost stories, stuff that’s never been adapted, and build the whole season out with the entirety of Henry James’ supernatural library. And that has been a real treat, because we really get to do things that I’ve never gotten to see before.”
