An 8-year-old boy who was coughing for five long years underwent surgery to remove a plastic toy that was stuck in his throat.
Marley Enjakovic from Adelaide experienced breathing difficulties and constant cough after swallowing a tiny flower several years ago.
After he was misdiagnosed with allergies and asthma, doctors finally found the plastic toy lodged in his throat.
When Marley’s symptoms became so severe that he could no longer breathe, his parents rushed him to the hospital where doctors found and removed the piece of plastic flower.
Marley’s worried mother, Skye, said he had coughing fits while eating and there were times when he would cough for hours.
They were previously told that it was asthma but she knew that it was more than that as the coughing was also triggered by drink and food.
When the plastic flower was finally discovered and removed, Skye said that she was shocked but relieved at the same time.
“I was absolutely shocked. but also really relieved, to be honest, because out of all these years I finally had an answer,” she expressed.
“My main concern at that point in time was that he was actually born with that condition. Because if he was born with it, he would have had other issues.”
Skye added: “To know it was caused by a foreign body, it was a slight bit of relief for me. My message to other parents is that if you feel like there is something wrong, just keep pushing for it.
“I am so glad I did because it means I have him today.”
