Nurses were recently left stunned after a woman gave birth to her son in the most unique manner.
The couple says they were also shocked after their son’s birth was termed to be a historic moment in the world of medicine after midwives at the hospital declared it to be a one in 80,000 birth event.
Many nurses stated that it was not something they had seen after mom Jennifer Petrie gave birth to her little baby son on the 16th of December. The couple was beyond ecstatic to welcome their baby boy and hearing the news of this rare delivery made their celebration even sweeter.
For those who may not be aware, the mermaid birth is a term reserved for when a pregnant woman enters into labor without her water breaking. Jennifer says she traveled all the way to the hospital with her boyfriend in Southport so she could give birth in a giant birthing pool.
“My water never broke and that is something that rarely ever happens because the amniotic fluid sac is what encases the child like a balloon. And that meant that when my little son came into this world, he was still encased in that balloon, shocking so many medical professionals,” the mother started to explain.
The baby entered the pool in his balloon, making it a memorable sight for many to witness. “It appeared as if he was in his little cocoon. It only burst when I made the attempts to pick him up and that’s when he was birthed out of it,” she added.
There were so many people standing stunned at what was going on as it’s something so rare to come across. “Oh my God, this is amazing, it’s just too rare for anyone to witness any of this,” added another nurse.
Thankfully, the birth took place with sheer ease and no complications, with the mother not requiring any pain relievers as well.
