A marine veteran named Dean Evans left the military in December after serving eight years in order to live with and care for his parents with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in Waldorf, Maryland.
His father, Ricky Evans, started having symptoms of the disease back in 2011. At just 66 years old, Ricky Evans struggles with mobility. He needs help from family and caregivers at all times as he also suffers from Parkinson’s disease.
On February 23, Evan shared a video of his 3-year-old daughter, Paisley Evans, dancing with her grandfather.
Paisley was wearing a pink princess gown that lit up and changed colors as she sparkled and twirled around the living room. Her grandfather, who is unable to stand on his own, was wearing a hospital gown.
Evans stood behind his father and supported him as he danced with Paisley.
Evans wrote alongside the Facebook video, “My daughter wanted to dance with my dad,”
“She wanted him to go to a ball with her so she grabbed her Disney dress. Melts my heart.”
Paisley was extremely delighted and clasped her grandfather’s hands and began to twirl to the song “Tale as Old as Time” from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”
The video went viral on social media and it melted everyone’s heart.
Dean Evans has made many sacrifices in his life. For one, serving for the country as a marine was a big sacrifice. Not many can take this type of career path. But now that he is taking care of his aging parents, it is a different kind of sacrifice. A sacrifice filled with grief, doctor visits, and fear of how the story will eventually end.
