A couple is sharing their pain and heartbreak after their baby’s rare eye movement was abruptly diagnosed as a deadly brain tumor by doctors.
Little Jessica’s parents revealed the tragedy that they’re experiencing and are taking this as an opportunity to raise awareness on an issue that might be casually overlooked by other parents. For this reason, they’re calling out all those kids who may have these fatal symptoms.
“We want everyone to be alert about the symptoms in kids and how fast-paced MRI scans can diagnose the condition at an early age, making therapy more successful,” they added.
Little Jessica was diagnosed at four months old with pilocytic astrocytoma which is a deadly tumor of the brain and spinal cord. This was definitely not something her parents saw coming, adding how they were in absolute disbelief after doctors gave them the heartbreaking news.
Jessica was forced to start therapy immediately, and that included five operations, three different types of chemotherapy, followed by a few lengthy spells in the hospital too,
But the young child was deemed too weak to undergo more surgery or chemotherapy and for that reason was released from the hospital via an ambulance and advised to undergo palliative care.
Doctors have informed the parents how little Jessica may just have a few weeks to live.
The parents explained how they felt something was not quite right with her when Jessica’s right eye started to move at a rapid pace from one side to another. However, initial referral by a GP towards another hospital where they had to wait nearly three to four months to undergo an MRI scan.
Finally, after undergoing an emergency scan at another children’s hospital in Glasgow, her parents were informed about a large mass in the child’s brain, followed by a few smaller ones in her spinal cord.
