According to police officers in Xuancheng City, they “caught the suspected thief” after they saw it “stealing” cherries in the station’s courtyard on Friday morning.

Xuancheng police jokingly posted on Twitter-like Weibo that the “fugitive” had totally ignored officers’ “warning” after they spied it eating cherries scattered on the ground.

An officer named Lin Yang told BJ News that he and his colleagues saw the hedgehog feasting on the fruit and found the scene “so cute.”

Wanting to get closer, they picked off more cherries from the trees and tried to give them to the animal.

“But, with us around, it was too scared to eat,” Lin told the media outlet.

The cops just decided to stick the cherries on the animal’s back so “it could take a doggy bag home.”

They then filmed the footage where the animal could be seen “fleeing to escape punishment.”

However, the officers added that all the cherries fell off the animal’s back before it fully exited the station’s premises.

Another one appeared to reply from the animal’s perspective: “I have been very careful and stopped after taking every step. Why [do the cherries] keep falling? How can I explain this to my wife when I get back home?”

While another user chimed in: “Every time a cherry falls down, [it] would stop and hesitate if it should pick it up and eat it.”
