A hero priest from Italy lost his life to coronavirus after he offered his ventilator to a young patient.
Father Giuseppe Berardelli who was 72-year old died in Lovere, Bergamo on Monday after being tested positive of coronavirus.
In Italy, around 60 priests have died from the novel coronavirus and the country is reportedly is second-worst affected country in the world after China.
Additionally, Bergamo, located in the Lombardy region is among the worst affected regions in Italy that has reported more than half of the overall Covid-19 associated death in the nation.
As per the reports of Lovere Hospital, Giuseppe Berardelli refused to take the respirator that is parishioner offered to him.
The priest in a selfless act has his respirator to a younger patient who was combating the same disease. Post this news surfaced in the media, social media was brimmed with users paying tribute to the hero priest.
A post from priest James Martin said that he was a martyr of charity a saint similar to St. Maximilian Kolbe, who volunteer to save the condemned man by talking his place in Auschwitz.
Don Giuseppe Berardelli was patron to those who suffered from coronavirus. Apparently, the residents of Casnigo applauded from their balconies and windows when his coffin was being taken for burial.
Another social media tribute said that thank god for providing the world with such heroic example who are sick.
Dioceses of Italy who have lost their priests to the novel coronavirus include Cremona, Parma, Milan, Brescia, Trento, Ariano Irpino, Salerno, Tortona, Pesaro, and Nuoro.
As of now, Italy has witnessed around 6,077 death due to coronavirus is under complete lockdown while it tries to stop the spread of this deadly infection. The PM of the country has shut down almost all businesses and banned public gathering on March 12; 2020 until further notice.
