It was a calm afternoon when all of a sudden a little girl began to scream.
Everyone looked around until they saw her. A little girl was trapped in a raging current and being pulled under the water. She struggled against the current, but it was of no use. She was being dragged out to sea.
Everyone on Bondi Beach in Australia watched in horror, but then a hero stood up. It was a trained lifeguard named Terry. He immediately sprung into action, ran towards the water, jumped on his board and made his way to the little girl as fast as possible.

Time was a key factor here. Mere seconds were what mattered as he paddled towards her. Thankfully, he was able to make it in time. He pulled the young girl who was exhausted out of the water. She was now safely in his arms on the board. Now they would slowly make their way back to shore.
While Terry is a lifeguard and is trained to handle incidents like this, it’s still absolutely incredible that he managed to save her from the waves. We don’t often think about them, but currents are incredibly dangerous as they can move you miles away from shore in a matter of minutes. They are also incredibly difficult to get out of, even for trained swimmers. Had Terry not been on duty, the results could’ve been truly disastrous.

During an interview after the rescue, the heroic lifeguard fought back tears as he told reporters of the event. It was a horrible experience not only because a child’s life was on the line, but also because it brought back painful memories for Terry.
He was about to become a father, the baby was almost out in the wide world.point 60 | They had gone through the pregnancy and a several hour long labor and they were finally going to meet his first son when something went terribly wrong.point 185 | Tragically, his newborn son was trapped in the birth canal during the delivery.point 252 |
Doctors weren’t able to get the baby out in time and he died from a lack of oxygen.point 72 | The loss was immense and that’s when Terry decided that he would become a lifeguard.point 148 | When he’s on guard he will risk life and limb to make sure that no other parent will ever endure the pain of losing a child.point 253 |

I had to fight back tears as I watched Terry relive those painful memories. He’s truly a hero and reminds me to treasure the lives of my children every day.
