Zane Powles is the assistant headteacher who works at Western Primary School in Grimsby, located in Lincolnshire.
Today he is being hailed as the hero and for all the right reasons. This inspiring teacher walks over five miles daily to deliver free lunches to his students.
Overall the food weighs around 40 pounds, and he takes the free lunches to the students daily. Considering that he was in the army before, he might be used to the weight. He also uses this opportunity to check-up on the kids and sees who they are holding up.
Additionally, Kim Leach, the headteacher, along with another teacher, delivers 25 free lunches to families who live in faraway regions by car.
Zane puts the packed lunches on the doorsteps of the students, knock on their doors, and wait until someone picks up the package. He revealed that it is a humble experience to deliver the food and get such a heartwarming response from the people.
In fact, many parents of the students are happy to him when he arrives. Zane posted a video where he explained in detail about his food delivery endeavors.
It all started as his way of ensuring that the kids are safe and got their daily free meals. Later he realized that his act was great support for parents as well during this challenging time.
He further explained that children and parents come to the door or window to wave at him. Some parents chat with him as he is the only adult contact they seem to have these days.
Zane explained that he is a private person, and all this attention is making him feel a bit embarrassed. However, he is just doing his job, and the safety and health of students are at the top priority.
In fact, he also won an award for his efforts, which he shared on his Twitter handle. The teacher wrote that he won the Grimsby Telegraph’s Golden Apples Award for Most Inspirational Primary Scool Teacher.
