The most anticipated film, perhaps, of all times, Avengers: Endgame was expected to break all record of box office collection.
This came after the release of the film as it became the biggest ever opener.
And now, just three months after its release, Endgame has overtaken Avatar’s lifetime collection and became the highest grosser film of all time.
James Cameron Avatar’s collection is $2,789.7 (£2,231.22) billion. Avengers: Endgame took over the box office collection and on Sunday reported $2.7902 billion of sales.
The news was announced by Marvel chief, Kevin Feige on Saturday. Till then the record by Avatar was still intact, but it was sure that Avengers would break it.
Alan Horn, Disney’s chief creative officer and co-chairman, congratulated Walt Disney Studios teams and Marvel Studios and thanked the fans spread across the world for the massive success of the movie.
He acknowledged Avatar for holding the record for ten years, and power of movies that brought people all over the world together in a shared experience.
In an Instagram post, Chris Hemsworth who plays Thor in Avengers series congratulated his team and thanked the fans for lifting Avengers: Endgame to historic heights.
Earlier this year, Disney acquired major rights to 20th Century Fox’s assets, which also include Avatar.
This means that everyone’s all-time-favorite Mickey Mouse and the team is a clear winner no matter who amongst Marvel Comic Universe or Pandora earns more.
Avatar 2 is set to release on 18th December 2020 while Avatar 3 will release on 17th December 2021. Whether or not the movies break Avengers: Endgame’s record, it is highly awaited.
