A hiker spoke out and alleged that he was approached by wanted man Brian Laundrie and asked for directions.
It has been weeks since Brian Laundrie disappeared after returning from his cross-country trip without his girlfriend and fiancée Gabby Petito.
As fresh leads continue popping up, one hiker insisted he saw Brian Laundrie in person far from where the authorities are looking for him.
According to Dennis Davis, he came across the missing man on early Saturday morning after the fugitive waved down his vehicle on an isolated road near the Appalachian Trail.
The alleged encounter allegedly took place on Waterville Road in North Carolina, close to the state’s border with Tennessee.
As Davis insists, Laundrie went on to make a bizarre request as he asked him for directions to California and suggested he wishes to avoid main roads.
According to the father-of-four, he then went on to advise the man to take Interstate 40 to make his way to the west of the country.
“There is no doubt in my mind I spoke to Brian Laundrie — none whatsoever. Dog the Bounty Hunter’s daughter sent me an audio file of Brian’s voice and the voice was the same I heard,” Davis said in an interview with the New York Post.
“He said ‘Man, I’m lost.’ I said ‘What are you trying to find?’ and he said ‘Me and my girlfriend got in a fight but she called me, told me she loves me, and I have to get to California to see her.’”
Recalling the creepy encounter, Davis added:
“I said ‘Well, I-40 is right there and you could take it west to California’ and he said, ‘I’m just going to take this road into California.’ He was worried and not making sense.”
According to the hiker, Laundrie was in a light-colored truck at the time of the encounter. Though it was still dark outside during the encounter, Davis became sure he talked to the wanted man after checking photos of the missing man following his return home.
“Law enforcement is probably getting millions of leads on this guy, but I am not some goofball out there doing drugs in the middle of the night, I am a highly educated professional,” Davis added after revealing he had contacted the police and the FBI but was not yet called back for more information.
“And I know that was the guy. There is no doubt about it. We have this lead but no one’s doing anything, not even a phone call.”
