Hilary Duff is slammed on social media for piercing her eight-month-old daughter’s ears.
The multi-talented star posted a new photo of her little girl, Banks, in her Instagram Stories, the photo shows the little baby sitting on the floor with her hair in a tiny ponytail and her tongue sticking out.
But some fans did not like her ear piercing and commented on Hilary’s recent posts to slam her for it.
In the picture, Banks, wearing banana-print pants and a tie-dye top. She has a bracelet on one wrist and a silver stud in her ear.
‘She has enough hair for a pony!’ she wrote. ‘Oh and yes we pierced her ears.’
It was confirmed after Hilary shared another post on Sunday, showing Banks wearing the earrings while sitting in her mom’s arms.
Critics didn’t notice the earrings in the original post, but quickly judge once Hilary confirmed the piercing.
‘I can’t believe someone who seemed [to have her head] so screwed on pierced her babies ears, causing unnecessary pain that isn’t for medical reasons done by a fully qualified medical professional is child abuse in my eyes, the risks are unreal and that throbbing pain in her ears no matter how happy and looking after your child is just isn’t justified in my eyes,’ wrote one.
‘Just won an un-follow after seeing you pierced her ears, poor baby. Bye!’ said another.
‘I can’t fathom why you would you think it’s okay to have your daughters ears pierced,’ said a third. ‘Causing her a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort.
‘Was she able to ask you to have them pierced? Was she able to agree to have them pierced?
‘Did she sit there with a smile on her face whilst a gun with a needle was placed on her ear? Did she say politely after, thank you?
‘Or did she sit and cry and scream looking to you for comfort and to make it all better? And tell me how did it make you feel sitting there and watching her have pain inflicted on her unnecessarily?’
And another wrote: ‘Just wondering how she gave you consent to pierce her ears? unfollowing.’
So far, Hilary doesn’t seem to worry about these negative comments, though her fans came to defend her.
Most commenters said good things about the picture, writing that her daughter is ‘precious,’ ‘sweet,’ and ‘cute.’
‘I am 51 yrs old and my sister and I had our ears pierced when we were babies as well and done with a needle, I’m ok,’ wrote one woman. I’m not traumatized and I don’t remember because I was a baby. People need to stop judging what other people do, and look at what goes on in their own home.’
‘Got my bubs ears pierced at 3mths old, she didn’t even wake from her sleep, not one single problem with them,’ said another. ‘She’s now older & has never had an issue. She can always take them out if she hates them. You all crazy giving someone crap over what they do to “their” child.’
‘I don’t know why people feel the need to mom shame?’ wrote one more. ‘This is a beautiful photo! Hillary isn’t likely to take her daughter’s earnings out just because a bunch of strangers tells her how horrible of a mom she is for doing it in the first place… there are far worse things parents do to their children.’
