For the first time in 30 long years, the Himalayas have become visible once again from many parts of India.
Residents shared beautiful photos of the mountain ranges and put the visibility down to the clean air amid coronavirus lockdown.
People in the Jalandhar district in Punjab, almost 125 miles away from the Himalayas, have been awe-struck to see the snow-capped mountains as the levels of pollution have lowered across the country.
“Never seen Dhauladar range from my home rooftop in Jalandhar..never could imagine that’s possible..clear indication of the impact the pollution has done by us to Mother Earth .. this is the view,” Harbhajan Turbanator wrote on Twitter.
One Twitter user replied: “This is what we’re missing due to pollution. I could barely see stars in average Delhi sky but it is very clear nowadays.”
Another commented: “We have seen it too from Gurdaspur… First time in my life I have seen such a beautiful view of the snow mountains.”
A third added: “With all the bad news making the headlines, here’s something to be glad about. When all this is over, take an effort to protect our planet and minimize pollution. Let’s start by using EVs.”
Someone else said: “Our earth is taking a deep breath.”
The European Space Agency recently released video showing the reduction of air pollution over China as the nation went into lockdown last month.
“The drop in concentrations in late January is visible, coinciding with the nationwide quarantine and from the beginning of March, the nitrogen dioxide levels have begun to increase,” the European Space Agency reported.
“By combining satellite observations with detailed computer models of the atmosphere, their studies indicated a reduction of around 20-30 percent in surface particulate matter over large parts of China.”
