Bernie Marcus has already spent a fortune donating to numerous philanthropic causes.
He also gifted the state of Georgia a 250,000-square foot aquarium in Atlanta and given millions to an autism center in his home state.
The Home Depot co-founder also donated millions for a stroke and neuroscience center and trauma center at Grady Health System.
Speaking to Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 90-year-old Marcus revealed he plans to donate most of his fortune while he is still alive.
He revealed he has given about $2 billion to over 300 organizations around the world. He said he is still searching for worthy causes and wants to give away more billions to those in need.
“Every day of my life, there are new challenges for me that I want to get involved with,” he expressed.
He also said that even after his death, 90 percent of his wealth will go to the Marcus Foundation, which will distribute it to different organizations.
He also wants to help veterans coping with brain injuries and post-traumatic stress by constructing 25 centers around the nation for their treatment. Marcus also wants to further medical research and care for kids with autism.
“I want to live to be 100 because I want to be in a position to give it away to those things that I really believe in,” Marcus shared.
“I’ve got all the houses I need. I live very well. My kids are taken care of. Everything I live for now is finding the right things to put my money into and that can give me a rate of return in emotion and doing good things for this world,” he added.
Marcus has also been a political donor, especially for Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016. He said that he plans to help the president get re-elected.
“[Trump’s] got a businessman’s common sense approach to most things. Now, do I agree with every move that he makes? No, I don’t. But the truth is he has produced more than anybody else. He has. If we look at this country, I would say that we are better off today than we were eight years ago or six years ago,” Marcus said.
The businessman is also aware of certain areas where the president lacks. “I’ll tell you what he has not done well: His communication sucks. I mean he takes on every battle. He’s fighting. He does things he shouldn’t be doing. As president of the United States, I’d rather him do things that are meaningful,” he added.
