A woman from California has shared the horrifying details of an attack by a homeless man who emptied a bucket full of fecal matter on her head.
According to Heidi Van Tassel, the gross event took place just ahead of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Los Angeles.
The man, apparently a homeless, drained the bucket full of hot waste on her head which Heidi perceived as ‘diarrhea’ while she was getting in her car.
Speaking to NBCLA, Heidi said: “It’s so traumatic, It was diarrhea. Hot liquid. I was soaked, and it was coming off my eyelashes and into my eyes.
“Paramedics who came to treat me said there was so much of it on me, that it looked like the man was saving it up for a month.”
Heidi’s interview was featured in an NBC special, regarding the increasing frequency of criminal offenses being committed by the homeless.
“It was all inside my car because it was so much. He just kept pouring it and splattering it all over me,” Heidi said.
“It was awful and it changed my life, it’s changed the way I feel walking on the street. It was something I won’t ever forget, it was disgusting.”
Heidi was shifted to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital immediately after the gruesome attack where the doctors checked her for infections that might have been caused by contact with the human waste dumped on her.
She was directed to have monthly tests for detecting any dormant infections she might have contacted.
The attacker was identified as Jere Blessings. The man is known to have ‘schizophrenia and psychotic disorders.’
He was sent to a residential correction facility by a court to have proper treatment for his condition and was released.
Heidi was supposed to be contacted by a victim liaison officer for the follow up of the case but she told NBCLA that she never got a call from them.
Speaking of the person who attacked her, Heidi said: “He doesn’t need jail time. He needs mental health care. I have empathy for him because he needs help. I’ll never ever forget his face.”
According to NBC, the whole thing was caught on camera by a nearby business’ security cam and the body cams of the officers who first responded to the scene but for some reason, Heidi was not given access to the footage of either of them.
Heidi said the fact that Blessings has been set free and is roaming the streets of Los Angeles makes her concerned about the well-being of other citizens.
She said: “What’s the next thing he’s going to do somebody? If he would’ve had a knife, for sure he would’ve stabbed me.”
A man and a woman were also attacked on the same street where Heidi’s incident took place.
As of now, around 36,300 homeless people reside in Los Angeles city. More than 6,500 homeless people were taken into police custody for criminal offenses in 2017 alone.
