Hope Solo, two-time Olympic gold medalist and Women’s World Cup champion, told her social media followers that one of the five Dobermans that she had has died after it was shot.
Conan the doberman had wandered off of Solo’s private property on Wednesday. Solo and her husband Jerramy Stevens own a 60-acre farm in North Carolina. The couple are known as dog lovers, and said that they bought a large property because they wanted to give their dogs a large space.
Solo lived with five dobermans including Conan. In an Instagram post that she uploaded after the death of Conan, Solo said that Conan was the best out of the five. The couple had been raising all five of the dobermans since they were little puppies.
Solo said she and her husband were deeply shook because of the death of Conan. She explained how Conan tried his best to suvive all through the night, but died because he had lost too much blood because of the gunshot.
The retired goalkeeper explained that Conan had wandered some 30 yards off of their property before it was shot. According to her, the perpetrator shot Conan as the doberman was running home back to its owners. She explained how both she and her husband are having a difficult time understanding how anyone could shoot a harmless dog.
Earlier this week, Solo told her followers that Conan may need prosthetic legs that are developed for canines because of the shot. She had added that Conan was in a critical condition, but said the worse part was coping with the fact that someone would shoot a dog.
The details of the shooting were not disclosed in details from Solo or anyone else. The former star athlete thanked the veterinarians who took care of Conan until his final moments.
Solo previously explained how her husband once likened her to dobermans. Both seem tough on the outside and bring fear to many, but neither would even hurt a fly. Stevens is a former NFL player, and the couple have been married since 2012.
Although the details and responsibilities are unclear due to the lack of detail, we are still sorry for Solo’s loss. Share your thoughts with us in the comments, and be sure to follow us on Facebook for more news like this one.
