It’s said that birds of the same feather flock together, meaning that people who share the same interests would tend to come together and eventually become friends.

But you must have that one friend or know someone who has that one friend to whom the phrase “I never thought that we’d be friends” would apply.

That unexpected can be surprising, perhaps because at the start, you started with wildly different interests or maybe you came from totally opposite peer groups. But something just clicked and you ended up hanging out together and becoming best friends.

It’s heartwarming whenever stories like this happen because it just shows that humans are all connected and can’t be so different that unlike friendships can’t be formed.

And this type of thing happens in nature, even among different species. And this adorable video shows just how amazing these encounters can be.

Here we see an hours-old baby giraffe slowly approaching AJ the horse. Both of them sniff at each other and once they both pass muster, a bond is formed.

This isn’t that unusual even in the wild. Baby giraffes are often able to get up within 30 minutes of being born and they usually display a high level of curiosity and friendliness. Seeing how stable a giraffe baby walks, it’s amazing when you realize that just moments before, it was still in its mother’s womb.

In the wild, giraffes often interact with horses, deer, and zebras. This natural relationship is probably due to the height of giraffes (they usually average between 14 and 17 feet in height with the tallest recorded being at 20 feet) which makes them better able to detect predators and warn other animals of the danger.

One might think that their lanky build makes them easy prey but this is not the case at all. Giraffes are stronger than they look and even big cats will face a challenge trying to take one down.

The spots on a giraffe’s skin also provide visual camouflage that can help them escape notice from afar.
