There’d hardly be someone who doesn’t like a good horse.
They are just adorable. Adorable and intimidating at the same time.
Liga Liepina is an equine photographer who was born in Latvia and moved to Iceland when he was just 14. Liga has always had a special place in his heart for horses.
Speaking of his love for horses in an article he wrote for Bored Panda, Liga said: “It started with collecting all possible newspaper clippings, posters, and calendars of horses and once I had my first-ever riding lesson, I knew horses were going to be a huge part of my life.”
Liga started photography when he was a teenager. His favorite pass time in the years of his early youth was to click photos using his small digital camera.
He liked to capture landscapes more than people or other things.
As he grew older, Liga started taking photography more seriously. He bought a semi-professional camera and decided to pursue his passion on a new level.
About his transition from landscape photography to equine photography, Liga says: “As horses were part of my daily life, they ended up in front of my camera more and more, until my path led to equine photography.”
Liga wanted to do something new, something more than just equine portraits. He wanted to do something really breathtaking and that was the time he decided to combine his passion for equine photography and the stunning sceneries of Iceland.
Speaking of Icelandic horses, Liga said: “The Icelandic horses are very unique―they are very cooperative and brave, yet still wild in their heart, which I try to portray in my photos.”
These photos are nothing short of perfection and definitely, an awful lot of work goes into creating them.
The process of making every single one of these pictures starts with an idea, the next task is to bring the horses to the venue while making sure their safety is not compromised at any cost and its almost needless to say the weather in Iceland is unforgiving, to say the least.
Liga, who loves what he does, has a positive attitude about the hardships he faces.
He says: “It’s all worth it when I get to spend time out in nature with my equine models and witness how horses and the landscape complement each other.”
