A hospital offers two tiny vehicles for its young patients to drive to the operating room as a way to relieve their stress before entering for surgery.
The Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, California, shared a video of one their young patient driving around a small, pink Volkswagen Beetle while wearing a hospital gown and surgical cap.
The medical center wrote in their Facebook post, “We can see the stress and anxiety melt away when they hop in the car.”
The medical center explained that the child seen in the pink car is Caroline and it could be seen that she has some skill in driving.
Doctors Medical Center has not just one car, but two. The first was purchased by the hospital and the second was donated for the hospitals littlest patients to use.
The black Mercedes car, which was purchased by the hospital, was the start to the tradition of letting the children drive to surgery. It was introduced last year to young patients at the hospital.
One inspired hospital worker then decided to donate the pink vehicle to the hospital this year so there would be two vehicles that the young patients could choose between.
The medical center explained in a post, “The new pink car was generously donated by one of our employees and her family.”
The children appeared to be more than joyous to have a drive before going into surgery.
The video of a child driving a car around the hospital quickly went viral as people praised the medical center for its innovative method on making the children more comfortable before surgeries.
“It’s wonderful to see a smile instead of worry/fear,” one person commented. Another person wrote, “Way to go, this is so wonderful.”
There were numerous people who had asked the hospital if they needed more vehicles and would accept donations.
The hospital encouraged anyone to send them an email if they had a car to donate.
