A New York couple has exchanged their ‘wedding’ vows in a staged hospital ceremony over a sweet video call amid coronavirus lockdown.
The beautiful wedding ceremony, which indicates that a real wedding is soon coming, occurred at the OB/GYN of Duke University Hospital where Dr. Shelun Tsai walked down the hallway dressed in PPE to exchange vows with her partner and co-resident, Dr. Michael Sun, who appeared in a video call.
Assisting Dr. Tsai in the unusual ceremony were her co-residents, including two bridesmaids, who made sure that the virus wasn’t going to stop the lovebirds.
The pictures of the event were shared by Luke Gatta, MD, a resident of the Duke OB/GYN who presented the story on Twitter.
“When your co-resident’s wedding has been thrown off by COVID-19, you don your best PPE for a hospital ceremony,” the resident wrote in his tweet accompanied by a series of photos.
The story was also confirmed by the Duke OB/GYN Twitter account that announced:
“2 @dukesom residents had a @zoom_us wedding at @DukeHospital Birthing Center today! The ceremony commemorated what would have been their big day in NYC.
“Fam & friends virtually watched @dukeobgyn resident Shelun Tsai exchange vows w/ @DukePsychiatry resident Michael Sun.”
Since the couple was forced to postpone their wedding until October due to the pandemic, they both appeared relieved to hold a commemorative ceremony ahead of the real deal.
“It was absolutely amazing,” Dr. Tsai said in an interview with ABC News.
She also expressed her gratitude to their co-residents who went to great lengths to make the hospital ceremony happen.
