His co-worker at the hotel could not make to the work that day so Satchel Smith decided to take care of all the guests in the hotel by himself as Texas was in flood.
The 21 years old, who was supposed to work his regular shit that day when his city was facing an intense flood, he could have ditched to go to work and could have stayed at home where he was safe.
But the man decided to take up his responsibility as he went to the hotel where he works and worked for 32 hours straight to make sure the guests of the hotel are safe.
Satchel Smith is a college student who only works at the hotel for one day a week.
He deliberately came to work that particular day and worked and did overtime as the transport was disrupted throughout the city which made his co-workers unable to come to work and restricted the guests move out of the city and the hotel.
He said “I went to work around 3 in the afternoon that day. It was raining that time but there was no sign of flood at that time.”
Smith said that his shift was supposed to get over about 11 p.m. but the worker who was supposed to come in next texted him that he was not able to come in as it was raining so badly.
The rain had taken a massive turn by then and all the guests along with Smith were all trapped inside the hotel. Because of that, there was no one else in the hotel and he was the only person in charge. Thus he was supposed to take care of all the people in the hotel.
He then worked for 32 hours straight until the people could go out again and the workers of other shift could come in.
He definitely deserves the award of the best employee of the year.
