A car driver has been lucky enough to dodge death two times in a single day, first by driving out of the Storm Ciara and then surviving the unusual “accident” that included his car being eaten by a huge sinkhole on a street.
Photos of the scene show a Toyota Prius disappeared in a sinkhole with only its tailgate visible. The rescue personnel can also be seen in the photo, trying to make things right as far as they can.
For the people living in the vicinity, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A number of people came pouring out of their houses to witness the bizarre event.
A person from the area, 50-year-old Ollie Watson, got out of his house at 2:30 am to see what was wrong.
He didn’t see or hear the crash that happened a few yards down the street but his daughter told of some disturbance going on outside and he went out to investigate.
Watson said: “I thought it was a road accident at first. We didn’t hear it. Our daughter heard a bit of a commotion.
“We then thought that the fire brigade had cut the car in half – but it was actually just sticking out of the hole.
“It’s very unusual. My neighbors were out there, and a few people from across the road. I imagine that it will sit there for a while. They must be worried about more sinking, I suppose.
“I had to be let through the cordon to go to work this morning.”
