Hundreds of looters were caught on camera breaking into a temporarily closed Walmart and robbing the store of more than $100,000 worth of goods amid protests in Tampa, Florida.
As the surveillance footage revealed, some two hundred people broke into and ransacked the Walmart located on East Fletcher Avenue on the night of May 30, five days after George Floyd’s death.
According to the reports, the looters have stolen more than $100,000 worth of merchandise whereas the Hillsborough County Police asked people to help them identify those who participated in the burglary.
In the footage released by the authorities, looters are seen piling up and grabbing precious items such as electronic devices.
While some looters attempted to hide their faces using headwear and face masks, others were spotted walking in and out of the store scarcely clothed.
“Not only is this violence completely unacceptable, it was disrespectful to the protesters who were out there that night trying to express their message in an impactful way,” County Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed after the incident.
“We are actively working to identify each and every one of these suspects and ask the public to provide any information they may have.”
As the authorities have confirmed, some two hundred people must have entered the Walmart after breaking the glass doors of the store at 9:10 pm on May 30.
As for the Walmart in question, the officials have reported a loss of $116,000 in stolen goods and other damages.
