Swarms of monkeys were seen taking over a city in Thailand in a frantic search for food caused by the lack of treats they typically receive from tourists.
Amid the global coronavirus outbreak, a lack of tourists in Thailand has caused the apes that rely on treats to become hungry.
As seen in the pictures from the city of Lopburi, hordes of monkeys have taken over the streets and blocked the traffic.
According to the reports, the apes have also formed two opposing “gangs” that are fighting each other for food across the town.
One of the gangs allegedly consists of monkeys residing in temple areas whereas the other one includes city apes.
As the locals reported, they are astonished by the ferociousness of the apes which typically aren’t as aggressive.
“They looked more like wild dogs than monkeys. They went crazy for the single piece of food. I’ve never seen them this aggressive,” Sasaluk Rattanachai, a local who captured the footage in which dozens of monkeys are seen chasing another ape holding a banana, said.
“I think the monkeys were very, very hungry. There’s normally a lot of tourists here to feed the monkeys but now there are not as many, because of the coronavirus.”
