As Hurricane Dorian continues to destroy the Bahamas, twenty-one people are injured while five have died.
Prime Minister Huber Minnis confirmed on Monday that the 5 deaths that took place on the hard-hit Abaco Islands.
Lachino Mcintosh, an eight-year-old boy became the first victim to Dorian when he drowned while taking shelter near his family home in Abaco. His sister is also reported to be missing.
One of the strongest Atlantic storms, Dorian weakened slightly to a Category 4 storm last Monday with 145 mph winds. It remained extremely dangerous for the second day in Bahamas. The Hurricane Dorian was downgraded on Monday evening to a Category 3 storm.
The locals were asked to stay safe and take cover. Prime Minister Minnis announced that they are in the midst of historic tragedy on Monday.
The residents are left to their own devices as the destructive weather is keeping rescuers at bay. First responders and rescue crews have been forced to seek cover while Dorian powers on.
Foreign Affairs and North Abaco MP, Darren Henfield said that the severity of damage cannot be determined until the weather beings to clear. He also urged the residents to not go outside and stay inside as lamp posts are down, trees have broken across the street, and power lines are down.
The ZNS Bahamas reports as of Monday evening that a storm surge would result in water rising from 18 to 23 feet above normal tide levels.
People are sharing photos and videos of the devastation. Bahamas Minister for Agriculture Michael Pintard also shared a clip of his flooded home because of Hurricane rainfall.
Another clip emerged on Twitter with a caption revealing that floods have reached the second floor of a house in Freeport on the Grand Bahama Island.
