A grandmother who was believed to be dead woke up only moments before she was about to be cremated.
The 70-year-old woman had been lying in a coffin for 3 days when her 73-year-old husband noticed that she was still breathing.
Phinij Sopajorn was in a coffin in a temple in Thailand for three days before her funeral was scheduled to take place.
Thawin Sopajorn, her husband, was washing her face moments before the body was about to be loaded into an incinerator when he noticed that she was still breathing.
He immediately screamed for help and emergency services were called to the scene. Paramedics then confirmed that Mrs. Sopajorn was still alive.
Mr. Sopajorn was so happy that his wife was not dead and he managed to rescue her just in time.
“After she stopped breathing on Sunday we put her into the coffin and I thought it was strange that her body was not stiff. I bathed her and her body still moved,” said Mr. Sopajorn.
“Then during the funeral, I was the last person to touch her before the cremation. I wished for her to live a happy next life and then I saw her eyes start to move.
“I am so glad that I was right about her being alive. I gave her a hug and called my children, but they thought I had a hallucination.
“However, they had to believe me as my daughter-in-law who is a doctor checked and confirmed that she was alive, but her pulse was very weak.”
Doctors resuscitated Mrs. Sopajorn but even though she was alive, she couldn’t respond or talk properly.
The 70-year-old is currently at home receiving care but isn’t expected to pull through.
“My wife’s condition is severe and I don’t think she can ever be cured. But she was still alive and it was not her time to die,” Mr. Sopajorn added.
“If she was cremated while she was still alive this would be very bad. How could we allow that? It would be the wrong thing to happen.
“I am very thankful that I noticed my wife was still alive. We will continue caring for her until she has passed away.”
