It was in the 1950s when Ralph Miyata met Margie.
On June 5, 1955, they decided to tie the knot. The couple eventually moved to Indiana and fell in love with a specific body of water near La Porte.
The Stone Lake in the Hoosier state was deeply adored by the couple. Margie enjoyed water sports such as water skiing and windsurfing.
Ralph also chartered a boat named ‘Banzai’ and took his children fishing out on the area.
“My parents’ story is a beautiful bond of deep love,” Spencer shared.
But on April 21, Margie died in hospice care at a nursing home in Florida. Before she passed away at the age of 87, she had one final wish.
She wanted Ralph, 88, to cremate her body and spread her ashes into their favorite lake.
Joined by retired doctor James Sprecher and his wife Betty Sprecher, Ralph fulfilled his wife’s wish. On June 4, the three took a boat into the middle of the lake.
The 88-year-old scattered Margie’s ashes into the waters.
But as soon as they came back to the dock, the doctor heard a splash. Ralph suffered a cardiac event and had fallen into the lake.
Speaking about what happened to his father, Spencer said: “Dad literally dropped dead.” The former doctor also confirmed it.
“It was not a drowning,” James expressed. “He was dead when he hit the water.”
James tried CPR but he didn’t get a pulse from the man who had just fulfilled the last wish of his wife of 64 years.
“He had completed his mission, which was putting his wife’s ashes into the lake,” he said.
“I stood in the exact spot where dad passed,” Spencer said. “I will forever cherish the memory of the happiness that was in my dad’s voice when I talked to him just the night before.”
The next day, the couple would’ve celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. “They didn’t miss a beat in being together for their special day,” Spencer added. “Happy anniversary in heaven mom and dad.”
