“I ended up so thin that when I lay down on the mattress my bones hurt. In the end, I was wearing a girl’s age-seven clothes,” she added, claiming she weighed a mere 32 kilograms (70 pounds) at her lowest point.

As Catherine went on, she described the abuse going on behind closed doors for 12 years. Her husband would grab her by the neck and throw her across the room. He also installed surveillance in all rooms of their home in an attempt to keep an eye on her at all times.

She also reported him to the police which led the 42-year-old to admit to assaulting his wife as well as sexually assaulting another woman.

Despite pleading guilty, the man didn’t receive a custodial sentence, a decision that greatly upset Catherine as she was living under his shadow for 12 years.
