A loving husband was pictured standing vigil outside the hospital where his wife is undergoing chemotherapy after he was told he couldn’t stay by her side due to health risks.
40-year-old Texas-based Kelly Conner has been staying at the hospital for months after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Sadly, her husband, Albert, has been unable to stand by her side ever since the coronavirus lockdown was put in place.
While he may not be able to hold her hand, Albert showed his support for his wife by standing vigil outside her hospital window while holding a sign that read:
“I can’t be with you but I’m here. I love you. Thank you to all staff.”
Speaking of their current situation, the 44-year-old husband told Good Morning America that he couldn’t break his promise to his wife to be with her “every step of the way.”
“When you just reflect on everything and think about all the nurses and doctors and other patients, it makes perfect sense. You really can’t argue it. You just have to support it any way you can,” he said.
“[However,] I didn’t feel right not being a part of it because I had promised her that I would be there every step of the way and I felt like I would be breaking my word.”
As for Kelly, she admitted she broke into tears as soon as she finished reading her husband’s text that instructed her to look out of the window.
“It immediately brought tears to my eyes and I felt a love for him right then in that moment, that he would do that for me,” the 40-year-old breast cancer victim said.
“I think I kind of gasped and the nurse turned around and said, ‘What’s wrong?’ And then she saw I was looking out the window and she looked out and started to tear up too.”
