An entire family, including the husband, the wife, and their son, have come out after 23 years of living a life that didn’t make them feel content the way it should.
According to 53-year-old Bruce Downe, he decided to reveal his true nature just after his now-ex-wife and son came out as gay.
As the Connecticut-based man admitted, he felt trapped in his own life and couldn’t be more thrilled that he is now finally able to be who he really is.
“I finally was strong enough to say I don’t want to live this life anymore, I don’t want to continue to live a lie,” Bruce recalled in an interview with the New York Post before adding that he and his son attended the NYC Pride Parade together.
As for Bruce’s ex-wife, Joanne Hamilton, she was the first one to come out back in 2017 before getting engaged to another woman.
“I didn’t know she was gay and she didn’t know I was gay and we were married for 23 years,” the 53-year-old added.
Following his mother’s big revelation, the couple’s son, Tyler, also came out as gay. “It was easy to talk to him because I knew he would understand,” Tyler said, speaking of the moment he told his father he was gay.
Now, the proud father and son attended the Pride Parade together wearing tiaras and rainbow boots to celebrate their newly-attained life.
“I am now very happy. I love the person I am, no self-hatred,” Bruce added. “Today, I’m celebrating with my community. It makes me feel so proud.”
While his ex-wife was able to find the right partner for herself, Bruce is currently still on the hunt for the love of his life.
