Heartbreaking footage has emerged that shows a sick pensioner saying his final goodbye to his dying wife inside the hospital’s intensive care unit.

85-year-old Mr. Zhang and 87-year-old Ms. Wen were hospitalized in the Xindu Third People’s Hospital, Chengdu in China.

Mr. Zhang was hospitalized on 16th January as he suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and atherosclerosis.

While his wife, who is an Alzheimer’s patient, arrived at the hospital the next day after she lost consciousness due to respiratory failure.

Ms. Wen was put on a mechanical ventilator in the intensive care unit and her condition got worse.

When Mr. Zhang learned about his wife’s condition, he asked to meet her one last time to say a final goodbye. He said he wanted to meet her as he knew he wouldn’t be able to meet her again.

Mr. Zhang reportedly told his children: “I may not be able to see her again in this lifetime. I want to see her.”

After the doctor’s approval, Mr. Zhang met his wife inside the hospital’s intensive care unit to say his final goodbye.

The couple was placed on the beds next to each other in the ICU and Ms. Wen clutched her husband’s hand.

The heartbreaking moment was captured on camera that shows Mr. Zhang calling his wife’s name while Ms. Wen looking at her husband.

She was unable to speak due to the tubes but clutched her husband’s hand in the heartbreaking video.

Mr. Zhang returned to his hospital room the same day.

The heartbreaking footage has now gone viral on the Internet and left eveyone in tears.

Unfortunately, Ms. Wen passed away on 31st January.

Mr. Zhang’s family decided not to tell him that his wife passed away after he said his final goodbye to his wife.
