A husband and wife who were married for 71 years passed away on the same day only 12 hours apart.
88-year-old Marilyn Frances DeLaigle and 94-year-old Herbert DeLaigle tied the knot in 1948 and passed away at a hospital in Waynesboro.
Herbert passed away at 2:20 am and his wife followed exactly 12 hours later, the WRDW reported.
The two met in a Waynesboro cafe where Marilyn was working back in 1947.
In a 2018 interview with WRDW, Herbert DeLaigle said: “Frances worked at a little cafe we had in Waynesboro named White Way Café.
“I kept seeing her going in and out, in and out and I had my eyes set on her. And then I finally got up the nerve to ask her if she would go out with me sometime.”
He said that they went to the movies on their first day and after a year, he decided to propose.
Marilyn DeLaigle spent the next six years with him in Germany as he served there during the Second World War.
Herbert DeLaigle then served again in Korea and Vietnam before finally retiring after more than twenty years of service.
They had six children together, 16 grandchildren and a total of 25 great-grandchildren.
One internet user said: “I am glad for them. To be apart from one another after all this time would have been unbearable. Now they are together forever.”
Another wrote: “They’ll never have to be without each other. I love this kind of love!”
