A dog owner from Utah is currently facing multiple charges after authorities say her pet, a four-year-old husky, went on a killing spree, leaving over twenty animals dead.
Trip Kiss, an owner of a petting zoo, was out of his home taking care of children with special needs when he heard the alarm of the motion sensors in the yard. When he checked the surveillance video, he was shocked to see a dog attacking his animals, including ducks, rabbits, and chickens.
Kiss told Fox13: “He was chewing our goose that was at the back end there, he dug out the rabbits in their enclosure.”
The husky dog named Nikita fled the scene with two rabbits in its maw.
Kiss found out that the furry culprit had slaughtered two bunnies, a pair of ducks, a turkey, five chickens, and their pet goose. The bodies of the poor dead animals were scattered in the area around Kiss’ home.
When Kiss called the police, he was informed that his animals were not the only victims of Nikita that night.
The four-legged bandit also had killed 15 chickens on a nearby area.
Police were dispatched to the community, and after a two-hour search, they finally found the furry culprit. Nikita was taken to a local shelter, and the officers immediately contacted Mackenzie Morton, her owner, to tell about what happened.
Morton said that her pet had escaped from her boyfriend’s home and she couldn’t find her. She also explained that she didn’t inform her neighbors because she didn’t want to cause a disturbance that night.
“I didn’t think she was going to go on a killing spree,” the dog owner said, “because that’s not her, she doesn’t do that kind of stuff.”
Morton apologized to the owners of the butchered animals and promised to pay for the damages, which officers estimated around $1,300.
She was also cited with one count of animal running at large and 27 counts of misdemeanor attacking animals.
Nikita is currently in the city shelter, and if designated as a potentially dangerous animal, she will be returned to Morton under a set of restrictions, including being confined to their yard and kept on a leash.
