One of the most well-known facts about Leon Trotsky – the heir apparent to the USSR following Lenin – was how he was killed by an ice pick by an assassin that Stalin sent all the way to Mexico.
Shockingly, a police chief in South Carolina became the victim of a similar attack on Monday.
Franco Fuda, seen in the middle in his uniform in the above picture, is currently serving as the police chief in Bonneau, South Carolina. When he answered his door on Monday, the last thing he was expecting was a sudden and violent attack by a former convict.
According to the officials and media reports, the culprit told Fuda that the police chief was going to be killed today before commencing with the attack. Fuda was stabbed on the left side of his face, leaving him bloodied and injured at his own home.
Shortly after the attack became known, the police tracked down the assailant to a mobile home not too far from Fuda’s house. The thug refused to comply with the officer’s orders, creating a tense situation in which the assailant and the police had a stand off in front of his house.
To ensure the security of all the agents and to prevent any unnecessary injuries on both sides, the police department decided to deploy a scout robot into the assailant’s place before making entry.
When the police entered the house and got hold of the assailant, he was said to be naked and shouting. From the descriptions alone, some have speculated that the man may be suffering from a mental illness or is a drug addict. These speculations have not been confirmed nor denied.
The attacker was soon identified as Forrest Bowman. Although the police did not reveal further information about the culprit, they did confirm that Bowman had a criminal history in the past which had led to his arrest.
A day after the attack, a judge refused to grant bail to Bowman. According to reports by the local media, Bowman is facing charges for attempted murder. Added with his already violent past, it may lead to a serious penalty against the assailant.
