What seemed like a cooler filled with several bags of frozen ice pops turned out actually be a cooler filled with 9.
21 pounds of methamphetamine. The drug was packed in colorful bags designed to blow off authorities.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection confiscated the methamphetamine last weekend after a canine unit was able to detect the drugs during a highway checkpoint in Blythe, California.
The agents belonged to CBP’s Yuma Sector in Yuma, Arizona. However, they were stationed in California. When they discovered the drugs, the agents were conducting an immigration check on the Highway 78.
According to the reports, the car had lawfully admitted permanent U.S. resident and U.S. citizen, and the police arrested the 38-year-old male passenger and 28-year-old female driver. The duo was arrested for transporting the drug.
A Border Patrol canine alerted to an odor, which is was trained to detect, on Sunday afternoon. The odor was emitting from a Toyota Corolla.
The agents then referred the car to the secondary inspection area. They searched a cooler consisting of brightly colored bags made to appear like frozen ice pops and found out that they were actually the drug weighing around 9.21 pounds.
The CBP included in its release that the duo was charged by complaint, which is method that allows the reporting of criminal activity charges without inferring guild.
As of now, they are presumed innocent until further evidences determine the duo’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Last week, Arizona’s CBP officers found 2 pounds of fentanyl in a woman’s undergarments. A canine was able to detect the odor coming from the woman as she attempted to cross borders.
She was found 5 packets of fentanyl pills in her underwear, worth $21,000. In a similar incident, a woman was found to have meth in her vagina.
