Do you remember the horrors you used to experience before visiting the doctors’ place?
Kids do get intimidated and scared by the doctors, and it is quite usual for a child to hold on to some fear because of any rigorous medical procedure that they might have gone through.
And same has been the case with the 8-year-old Evie Hurst. The past visits have left a deep scare engraved on her. But there has been some grace as she enjoys her time with the music therapist at the C.S Mott Children’s Hospital.
Emma Wymer, the music therapist, deserves the credit for changing Evie’s perception about the importance of regular appointments.
The parents of Evie know very less of their adopted daughter’s medical history. Evie has been initially put up from China, and her American parents are now making efforts to know all about her medical history.
The little girl recently visited the hospital for an Electroencephalogram, which is a medical procedure done for seizure testing. She was bursting in tears as the medical staff hooked her up for the necessary testing. Evie was born visually impaired which makes her situation quite difficult because of her not being able to witness the procedure.
Evie can be seen crying in the beginning, but as soon as the music therapist asked her to sing her favorite song, Evie’s spirits saw a rise. The “Scars your Beautiful” song is a hit single of Alessia Cara which is also Evie’s go-to anthem.
The Ann Arbor, Michigan based hospital posted Evie’s video on their Facebook account on February 21. The music therapist said that Evie has always found her appointments to be distasteful and mainly because of the fear as to what is being done to her.
The medical professionals of the hospital have come to terms with the concept of music therapy because they saw it happening right before their eyes.
A hospital spokesperson, Mostafavi said that the two music lovers have now established a healthy relationship and this might result in Evie experiencing less fear for her next appointment. The visually impaired went with a ukulele back home.
