38-year-old Jamie Hunter, from Sutton Coldfield, was on cloud nine when he found out he was going to be a father at the end of May 2020.
However, in March, Jamie was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He knew his illness was terminal and he wouldn’t get to meet his child.
His last wish was to hold and cuddle his newborn which eventually got fulfilled as his partner Beccy Flint delivered a baby girl early.
On May 11, Jamie and Beccy welcomed a baby girl, Harper May Hunter.
Jamie, who feared he wouldn’t get to see his child, could hold and cuddle his newborn daughter.
Family friend Phil Taylor told that the family was left alone so they could spend some quality time together.
Phil said: “Jamie will never be able to celebrate his baby’s first birthday, teach them to ride a bike and learn to swim or be there for their first day at school. These are the things we take for granted.”
Phil has set up a JustGiving page to raise £100,000 for Jamie’s care, his family, and baby Harper May Hunter.
The page had already raised £50,000 within 48 hours.
Jamie, who works as a PE teacher at John Wilmott School in Sutton Coldfield, received heartfelt messages from his students, their parents, and his colleagues.
Phil said: “As a PE teacher, he has touched so many lives and has been an outstanding role model, developing young people through all walks of life. The kids love him at school, He’s always helping kids. He’s always put himself out for everyone else before himself.”
He said the money he is raising for him is not going to keep him alive but this is their way of paying him back for what he’s done for everyone.
