Two illegal immigrants were caught on camera scaling President Trump’s border wall with the help of a rope ladder and another man.
The incident occurred at a new section of the California-Mexico border wall whereas it was captured on film by J. Omar Ornelas of The Desert Sun.
One of the men, the one who climbed the wall first, was seen sliding down the rebars and running away as a border patrol vehicle showed up.
After the agents closed in, the other man, who was on the top of the wall at the time, quickly slid back down and left the premises with his partner.
It is unclear whether the authorities arrested any of the three men participating in the illegal immigration attempt.
The incident followed months after multiple reports confirmed that smugglers from Mexico have come up with cheap solutions for breaching Trump’s “virtually impenetrable” wall using basic power tools.
As The Washington Post reported, smugglers are using power tools such as cordless reciprocating saw in combination with unique blades that allow them to cut through steel and concrete bollards.
After cutting through the bollards, they allegedly use car jacks to come up with the sufficient force to push the steel bars aside, creating a gap big enough for an adult to squeeze through.
While Trump’s border wall, which racked up a budget of $10 billion, may not be impenetrable, it is suggested it helps prevent major cartels from generating massive sums of money by blocking their common human trafficking paths.
The government hasn’t yet revealed the extent of the alleged breaches with one official referring to them as “a few instances.” However, as they added, the project “significantly increased security and deterrence.”
In addition, the officials have claimed that the bollards are much more effective at keeping illegal immigrants at bay than models previously suggested and implemented.
“The cartels will continue to innovate, and they’re not just going to leave San Diego because the wall gets better. That’s life on the border,” former U.S. Border Patrol chief Ronald Vitiello said.
“The bollards are not the most evolved design; they are the most evolved that we could pay for. We never said they would be an end-all, be-all.”
While the damaged bollards can be easily replaced according to the authorities, the smugglers have come up with the idea to put the severed pieces back into their original places in order to disguise their break-in point and reuse it in future human trafficking attempts.
In addition, some smugglers are using makeshift ladders to try to scale the wall despite high risks of falls resulting in injuries or death.
As the Customs Border Patrol repeatedly expressed, one single structure can’t be enough to protect the border from illegal entries which is why they make use of the wall in combination with a surveillance system and armed forces.
“There’s no one silver bullet, and we’ve done our best to try to explain that. You’re always going to have to have boots on the ground. That’s why there are armed police officers at Fort Knox,” former Border Patrol agent Chris Harris said.
